Mattress Certifications Buyers Should Ask For

Short answer

Ask a mattress manufacturer for certificates that cover the materials (OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, CertiPUR, FSC®), the factory’s management systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 10002), social compliance (BSCI) and product conformity (CE). BRN Sleep Products holds all of these, including OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certificate 14.HTR.42882, issued by Hohenstein.

Certificates are the fastest way to check a new supplier, provided you know what each one covers and you ask for the number. Here are the ones that matter for mattresses, grouped by what they prove.

Materials

  • OEKO-TEX® Standard 100: textile components are tested for harmful substances. BRN: certificate 14.HTR.42882, issued by Hohenstein.
  • CertiPUR: the standard for the polyurethane foam used in the mattress. BRN uses CertiPUR as its foam standard.
  • FSC®: wood-based materials come from responsibly managed forests. BRN: FSC® C178848.

Management systems

  • ISO 9001:2015: quality management
  • ISO 14001:2015: environmental management
  • ISO 45001:2018: occupational health and safety
  • ISO 10002:2018: customer-complaint handling

BRN holds all four. Together they show that quality, environment, safety and customer feedback are run as documented, audited systems rather than case by case.

Social compliance and product conformity

  • BSCI: an audit of working conditions in the supply chain, often required by European retailers. BRN is BSCI audited.
  • CE: conformity with the applicable EU product requirements. BRN products carry CE conformity.

Certificates are a floor, not the whole quality system

Ask how the factory checks every order. At BRN a new collection is sampled and tested before repeat production; incoming materials, in-process operations and finished products are then inspected with AQL sampling. BRN applies Total Quality Management, measures customer-defined Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) characteristics, and uses Pareto analysis, root-cause analysis (5-Why, fishbone, 8D) and preventive actions. See quality at BRN.

Materials buyers ask about

BRN’s materials include natural latex, wool, organic cotton, bamboo, linen and coconut fiber, FSC®-certified materials, SEAQUAL® fabrics made from recycled plastic, and steel springs that can be reprocessed.
